About The Cleveland Cafe
The Cleveland Cafe is one of many web sites operated by Julianne Gentile, with a little help from her husband, Lance. Lance and Julianne are lifelong Clevelanders.
Julianne and Lance met online, when they both operated local Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) in the days before the Internet was readily available to the public.
In 1996, Julianne was determined to re-create her BBS system (The Edge of Dementia) on the Internet, but she was recruited by a new Internet portal called The Mining Company (which later became About.com), and she became their first Guide to Cleveland (and also their first guide to Computer Action Games). She was charged with the task of creating relevant articles about Cleveland Ohio online, as well as reviewing and reporting on Cleveland area Web sites. She was the Cleveland Guide from 1997-2000. Fearing the impending dot.com bust, Julianne took her stock options and moved on, with the hope of creating her own Cleveland site someday.
From Julianne Gentile:
"My mission is to create a home
away from home for all my online neighbors, presenting local attractions both on and off the net including: the best of Cleveland's online community, virtual tours of Cleveland's rich cultural landmarks, the latest special events and concerts, and a focus on what's hot this week in Cleveland's active nightlife."
Julianne also owns a local development company that operates a number of popular Web sites. She has been leading online communities for over fifteen years as well as educating individuals in the use of personal computers and the World Wide Web, for personal and business use. Her site, The Mommy Mall, has been reviewed in Cleveland Magazine (February, 1999), as well as many several national magazines. The Edge of Dementia lives on as Julianne's personal photoblog.
